Why audit logs are useful
Audit logs create a record of actions so you can easily detect mistakes or unauthorized changes.- Who performed the action
- When it happened
- From where
- What was changed
How to download your audit logs
1. Navigate to your Settings.
2. Select Audit logs
3. Select the timeframe
4. Click Download as CSV to download the audit log file to your computer.
Only Starred Admins can download audit logs.
If the file is too big, you'll get an error. Reduce the timeframe chosen to be able to export.
How to read the audit logs
The CSV file will contain the following columns:
- Timestamp: the date and time when the action was performed
- Actor: the user that performed the action
- Email address: the email address of the user that performed the action
- Event category: the section of the app where the action was performed, ie. user, company, survey, etc.
- Event type: the type of HTTP request made to the system. It tells you what kind of action a user or system performed.
Examples of requests
- GET = retrieve data
- POST =Create or send data
Including GET and POST helps you understand:
-
Whether the user was just viewing data (GET)
-
Or modifying/creating something (POST)
- Item changed
- Event details
