Sharing a Survey Through a Subdomain

Use a subdomain to publish a branded, open version of your survey.

A subdomain allows you to share your survey through a custom link such as:

yourcompany.starred.com

This link can be placed on your website, in email signatures, or in newsletters to collect ongoing feedback.

What Is a Subdomain?

A subdomain is a branded URL within the Starred domain that is dedicated to your company.

Example:
yourcompany.starred.com

The survey attached to this link becomes an open (reactive) survey, meaning anyone with the link can access and complete it.

How to Create Your Subdomain

  1. Go to Settings

  2. Click Company profile

  3. Scroll to the Subdomain section

  4. Enter your preferred name (we recommend your company name)

  5. Save your changes

Once created, contact our Support team to activate the survey on your subdomain:

Please let us know which survey should be attached to the subdomain. This step is handled on our side.

How the Subdomain Survey Works

After activation:

  • The survey becomes publicly accessible

  • No invitations are sent through Starred

  • Anyone with the link can respond

  • The survey can be used continuously

You can share the link via:

  • Email campaigns

  • Email signatures

  • Website pages

  • Help centers

  • Customer portals

⚠️ Important Limitations

Before using a subdomain, keep the following in mind:

  • Responses are anonymous - Starred cannot automatically collect recipient details when the survey is accessed via a public URL.

  • No invitation tracking  - because there is no invitation event:

    • Invitation count is not tracked

    • No invitation date is recorded

    • Response rate cannot be calculated

Only total responses will be visible in the dashboard.

When to Use a Subdomain

A subdomain is ideal if you want:

  • Always-on feedback

  • A public survey link

  • Anonymous responses

  • A survey embedded on your website

When NOT to Use a Subdomain

Do not use a subdomain if you need:

  • Identifiable respondents

  • Custom properties attached to responses

  • Invitation tracking

  • Response rate reporting

In that case, use Generate links with properties → instead.
